About the Founders
Ben & Mary
In the early 2000s, they began growing citrus trees, experimenting with various types, including the Ponderosa lemon, which has been planted at their home for 25 years as of 2025.
Their passion led them to connect with others in the industry, eventually leaving their corporate jobs to turn their hobby into a full-time business: Simply Citrus Nursery.
They started selling at the South Carolina State Farmers Market and then at Soda City until Covid-19 hit, which led to moving the nursery to Gadsden Farms, where they have 80 mature satsuma mandarins in partnership with Jamie Madden, the owner.
In 2020, they bought 5 acres for their new nursery. Over the course of the last five years, their business has grown to be the largest citrus nursery in South Carolina.
They love assisting visitors in selecting the most suitable citrus varieties, while also providing guidance on how to care for them.
